This study's objective was to recognise the functional characteristics of the underutilised crop ash gourd and the verified health claims to be able to aid future researchers in identifying any gaps. However, it was necessary to pay attention to the findings that were supported by science in order to provide customers who are worried about their health with concise information as well as researchers in the fields of functional foods and nutrition. It is a brief review of the scientific data from various ash gourd studies. Ash gourds have been extensively investigated and have a variety of health benefits that have been reported. A limitation was the dearth of scientific research in comparison to conventional usage and folklore beliefs. Understanding the nutritional value of ash gourd through scientific studies may have a positive impact on both the work areas and customers in proper direction.
