Kabaddi is a popular game because of the excitement and thrill and it is a combative sport which requires much potential to play. It is also emerging as a serious sport outside the Asian continent. Because it is very fast, rough and tough sport that is why injuries are very common. Despite of recommendations to use professionally fitted headgears and mouth guards to minimize head, facial, and dental injury, the incidence of traumatic injuries are on the rise among players. There are several mechanisms through which mouth guards are hypothesised to reduce the likelihood of orofacial injuries. Mouth guards are of three main types: custom-made, stock, and boil and bite. The effects of jaw clenching on the dynamic, isokinetic and isometric strength of limb muscles and posture have been reported and it has been proved that wearing a rigid mouthpiece leads jaw repositioning in the forward and/or vertical direction which is beneficial. Although mouth guards have been shown to protect against orofacial injuries but due to discomfort, difficulty in verbal communication, and breathing, many players do not wear them during training sessions and competitions. So it is important to create awareness among the coaches, trainers and players about the benefits of mouth guards as a preventive tool.
