The poultry industry is growing globally, but heat stress negatively affects production, especially in tropical regions. Heat stress reduces growth, reproduction, and egg production in poultry by diverting energy resources. To mitigate these effects, there are genetic, management and nutritional strategies. Management strategies include proper shelter design, shade, sprinklers, cooling devices, fans and ventilation systems. Recommended floor space for mature birds is 0.06 m2/bird for 1.7 kg and 0.13 m2/bird for 3.5 kg, with a bird density of 27.8 kg/m2. Nutritional interventions involve balancing rations and providing micronutrients like fat, antioxidants, yeast, and electrolyte supplements. Adequate water supply and disease surveillance are also important. Biotechnological tools can identify genetic markers for thermo-tolerance, leading to new strains through marker-assisted selection. These strategies optimize and sustain poultry production in a changing climate.
