The food product is packed by different packaging methods such as active packaging, intelligent packaging and smart packaging. The package has some active ingredient giving some specific protection over the basic function called active packaging. Some package can able to sense or detect some characteristics of food, inner gas composition, inside environment condition, storage or transportation conditions called intelligent and smart packaging. The intelligent packaging consist of indicators (time and temperature indicators, integrity indicators, freshness indicators, oxygen indicator, carbon dioxide indicator, colour indicator, pathogen indicator, breakage indicator and leak indicators), radio frequency identification (RFID) and sensors and nano-sensors (microbial sensor, oxygen sensor, electronic tongue, fluorescent nano-particles, nanosensors to detect temperature changes, nanosensors for the detection of organophosphate, bio-sensors and gas sensors).
