Abstract

Good nutrition is essential to good health throughout life, beginning with prenatal life and continuing through old age. The importance of balanced diet and variety in diet cannot be compromised in any stage of life. Selection or choosing right food depends upon various factors like socio-cultural influences which includes specific dietary pattern of specific culture or geographical region, personal food choices is another one. Economic factor is another major factor determining the freedom and constraints while choosing food. Education and knowledge are another factor which enhance the logical and scientific parameters for choosing right food. FSSAI has done much effort in the direction of Eat right and eat smart campaign. With choosing right food one should also consider some basic points for encouraging right eating like minimizing salt and sugar, encouraging use of fortified foods and use of locally available foods. The importance of eating right has been further taken momentum in the Covid-19 pandemic situation. The pandemic has made us understand clearly that just having food is not enough. But to choose the right food and eating it smartly is the call of current situation. Today’s busy and stressful life has further increased the importance of choosing right food and eating healthy.
