Abstract

Food wastage is a serious concern in almost every country. In recent years, food loss and food waste raised up high on the strategy of researchers, policy makers, business and private organizations, internationally. With food insecurity rising among millions of people across the world, management of food waste is a serious issue for generating low-impact, healthy and flexible food systems. Reduction of food waste provides various benefits to planet, people and prosperity as it ameliorates food security, tackles the global issues of climate change, pollution, loss of biodiversity, and lessens burden on waste management systems. Therefore, decreasing food waste is one of the major techniques to battle hunger and feed the world sustainably. In order to provide food and nutrition security for present and coming generations, all food system components need to be resilient, sustainable and efficient. This requires modifications in current food systems at different levels, viz. household, local, national and global.
