This chapter explores the evolution of Telework since the 19th century, highlighting the factors that have facilitated its development, such as technological advancements, the rise of the internet, and the COVID-19 pandemic. It examines the characteristics of remote work, its origins, and the key technologies that made large-scale adoption possible. The chapter also addresses sectoral impacts, emphasizing that certain sectors, such as technology and services, have integrated remote work more easily than others, notably the manufacturing industry. Additionally, it discusses the challenges associated with balancing flexibility and productivity while analyzing the future perspectives of remote work, particularly in relation to employee expectations and companies' adaptation strategies towards a successful hybrid model.
