Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an uncertainty in human life worldwide and presents an extraordinary challenge to public health, food systems, world of work, family dynamics and mental health. Since it spreads rapidly from person to person prevention and transmission of a disease becomes a challenge. Thus, taking extensive precautions such as vaccination, extensive hygiene protocol (e.g., regularly washing of hands, avoidance of face to face interaction etc.), social distancing, and wearing of masks would be helpful in managing the prevention, transmission as well as severity of the disease. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is shattering. According to WHO, tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, and could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year. Being infected by corona virus, lockdowns, loss of Job, Loss of loved ones, disruption in educational services due to Schools colleges and universities shut down, disruption in mental health services has impacted the people physically, psychologically and socially. People with pre-existing mental, neurological or substance use disorders are also more vulnerable to the severe outcomes of Covid 19 infection. It has been reported that over 60% reported disruptions to mental health services for vulnerable people, including children and adolescents (72%), older adults (70%), and women requiring antenatal or postnatal services (61%). In order to face the challenges of disruption to in person services due to covid19, many countries (70%) have adopted telemedicine. Telephonic counselling, orientation about Covid and post Covid challenges; Psychological treatment of patients online; Cognitive restructuring to have a new perspectives of well-being are most needed not only to face the challenges posed to this mankind as well to adapt to this new normal in a healthier way.
