Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L) is a crucial grain crop of the semi-arid tropics in India. Among the eight millets foxtail millets is fairly tolerant to drought. Because of its quick growth, it will be grown as a short-term harvest. Its grain is employed for human consumption and as feed for poultry, cage birds and also fodder for livestock. Italian millet provides food to million of individuals, mainly on poor or marginal family. Foxtail millet as compared to other cereals has several desirable nutritional attributes. Nutritionally it's superior to rice and wheat, and therefore provides proteins, minerals and vitamins to the poor obsessed on such grains.
