Abstract

Banana or plantains, botanically considered to be a berry is a long, eatable fruit fabricated by various herbaceous flowering plants which come under the genus Musa (“Banana”) created by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The fruit grows as a bunch and hangs upwards at the peak of the plant. Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana are the two most important species from which starch-rich parthenocarpy are produced. According to the genetic makeup of bananas, the standard scientific names that have been considered are Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana, and Musa × paradisiaca for the hybrid Musa acuminata × M. balbisiana. Previously the banana plant was supposed to have come from a hybrid, Musa sapientum which is now obsolete. The texture of the banana can differ from being enriched with starch to tasting sweet to having a firm or slushy flesh completely depending on the place it has been cultivated in. The sweet taste of bananas usually comes from the disintegration of the starch via an enzyme amylase produced by ethylene. This ethylene also stimulates the production of pectinase enzyme that breaks down the cells of the banana causing it to become a little soft. Banana has this sweet aroma that comes from certain components present in it like isoamyl acetate, butyl acetate, and isobutyl acetate. It's a perennial plant of the MUSACEAE family that has innumerable health benefits it is copious in potassium which is much needed for the healthy functioning of the heart and to control blood pressure. Bananas that contain potassium are supposed to emit low levels of radioactive rays that occur due to the presence of Potassium K-40 which is considered to be one of the various isotopes of Potassium. This elongated, soft and starchy fruit has shown results in keeping the bones strong, making the muscle movement better and intercepting kidney stones. It's a highly fibrous fruit and keeps a check on blood cholesterol levels. The green bananas consist of resistant starch and are an excellent source to lower the blood sugar level and help patients suffering from diabetes.
