Abstract

At present agricultural waste is one of the biggest concerns. To solve the problem of agricultural waste disposal composting is the most effective approach. Composting is the process in which diverse and mixed groups of micro-organisms converts’ organic materials or raw waste materials into beneficial organic manures for soil. It is a process which conserves and recycles farm residues, improves soil structure and fertility status, maintains and improves quality of environment and reduces pollution cause due to waste disposal. The process of composting is very simple and reduces the input cost required for crop production. It is most desirable method of recycling rural organic residues into manure. It is a minimal disposal procedure which is very simple, safe, clean and eco-friendly technology for the benefits of small and marginal farmers’ residing in rural areas. Compost improves quality of soil especially the soil structure and also improves drainage and reduces erosion. Microorganisms play a crucial role in composting. The four main factors affecting the process of composting are temperature, C:N ratio, moisture and aeration.
