Abstract

The biotechnology sector when defined with colours is like a rainbow, with each colour denoting a sub-sector. Agriculture is one of the central issue in this era. In the world where scarcity and ailments associated with malnourishment is high and anticipated to extend within the future, new approaches to be necessitated. Alternative measures need to be created as because the traditional techniques alone cannot meet the obligatory measures. Thus, green biotechnology is the crucial requirement. Green biotechnology is the application of biotechnological techniques on plants to improve nutritional quality, making them more drought resistant and resistant to various disease. All the biotechnical techniques that are directly related to plants, crops, agriculture field comes under green biotechnology. It also helps to reduce the environmental pollution. It includes the development of genetically modified organisms, transgenic crops, hybrid varieties, bio-fertilizers, bio-control agents, power generation and the uses of renewable sources. It reduces the dependency of the agriculture field on chemical technologies by using biotechnological technique to increase productivity and production cost. Biotech plants contributing positively to reducing CO2 emissions and anticipating the impact of climate change on food scarcity. It is a part of wider movement of ‘going green.
